¿Qué si Miss Piggy influyó en mi carrera?
“¿Acaso Miss Piggy influyó en mi carrera?”, ríe Tina Fey mientras habla de su próximo papel en The Muppets… Again! “¿Es lo que me están preguntando? Bueno, pues era muy fan de Los Muppets. No me río, pero hay alguien extrañamente escribió algo en línea que es bastante certero, comparando 30 Rock con The Muppet Show. Nunca me di cuenta, pero los personajes se emparejan bastante bien, tanto así que probablemente me podrían demandar los Muppets. Pero en esta película creo que interpreto a una matrona de una prisión rusa, del gulag, y creo que me enamoro de René, a quien metieron a la cárcel por equivocación. Híjole, creo que tengo que preguntar si estoy autorizada a revelar eso”.
Incluso con el fin de su serie de culto 30 Rock, no parece que Tina vaya a tener mucho tiempo libre que digamos. Su más reciente filme, Admission, una comedia romántica de Paul Weitz protagonizada por Paul Rudd, se estrenará pronto. Además, Fey está en pláticas para participar en muchos otros proyectos después de la película de los Muppets –el más inmediato será un papel mucho más serio en This is Wherre I Leave You, del director Shawn Levy–.
Pero esperemos que aún tenga tiempo para escribir y ser chistosa, porque los fans (me incluyo) ya extrañan a Liz Lemon. ¿De dónde viene su comedia? ¿Cree que alguien pueda aprender a ser comediante? “Puedes aprender hasta cierto punto. Creo que algunas personas nacen con ello debido a la manera en que les gusta relacionarse con las personas, cómo quieren hacer feliz a la gente o presionarse a sí mismos. El intentar ser chistoso es un mecanismo de defensa. Pero ser chistoso es algo innato: o lo tienes o de plano no es lo tuyo”.
“Did Miss Piggy influence my career?” laughs Tina Fey, talking about her upcoming role in THE MUPPETS … AGAIN! “Is that what you’re asking me? Well, I actually was a big Muppets fan. And don’t laugh but weirdly somebody once wrote something online that was pretty accurate, comparing 30 ROCK to THE MUPPET SHOW. And I never realized it but surprisingly the characters all line up pretty evenly - so much so I could probably get sued by the Muppets. But in this movie I believe I play a Russian gulag prison matron and I think I fall in love with Kermit who has been possibly wrongly imprisoned. Hmmm, I guess I should ask if I'm allowed to give that away.”
Even with her cult favorite series 30 ROCK coming to an end, it doesn’t look like Tina will be sitting around with time on her hands. Her latest movie, ADMISSION, Paul Weitz’s romantic comedy co-starring Paul Rudd, hits theaters soon, and she’s in talks for several other projects to follow the Muppets movie – the most immediate likely to be a more serious role in THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU for director Shawn Levy.
But hopefully there will still be room in that busy schedule for writing and being funny – because fans (including this one) are already missing Liz Lemon. Where does her comedy come from? And does she think anybody can learn to become a comedian? “There's only so much you can learn. I think some of it people are born with, because of the way they want to relate to people, the way they either want to please people or take pressure off themselves. Trying to be funny is a coping mechanism. But being funny, that's something innate. And people either have that or they don't.“
